Stop/Start for Boom/Bust times?
Out this month is the new VW BlueMotion 2, the most economical, efficient and environmentally friendly Passat yet produced.
The headline feature is its stop/start system which means that when the driver comes to a halt (e.g. at lights and junctions) the engine shuts down as soon as the clutch is released after engaging neutral. Engaging the clutch fires the engine back up. For all those bad drivers who sit in gear with the clutch in at junctions this may not be good news.
But it may be worth changing your habits if you are one of them. Because mpg on the new saloon is 57.6 and emissions are down to 128 g/km. And the new model has a new 2.0-litre TDI 110PS common rail diesel engine. Aerodynamics are optimised through a 15mm reduction in ride height and significant bodywork smoothing changes.
So as times move from boom to bust maybe it would pay you to move to a stop/start economical Passat. Could be popular model for car leasing.
