Yes, yes, but does it go?

We keep hearing snippets of info about Porsche’s new Panamera which doesn’t go go on sale until12th September and it won’t be available for car leasing until after that date.
The latest ‘news’ is about its sumptuous, not to say decadent, interior:-
“With a continuous centre console that extends from the fascia to the rear seating area… offers a new spatial concept for the driver … featuring optimal ergonomic seating with an individual cockpit-like environment … offers customers countless opportunities for individual interior personalisation… smooth and natural leathers available in a total of 13 colour and material combinations, including four two-tone options that can be combined wherever required with seven optional interior trim finishes including exclusive materials such as carbon fibre and Natural Olive wood.”
Does this sound like a Porsche to you? It gets worse, or better:-
“The new Panamera is the first Porsche to offer the most supreme standard of in-car audio quality, with the option of a High-End Surround Sound System from Burmester, the renowned Berlin audio specialist…features more than 2,400 square centimetres of ‘sound membranes’ to deliver an audio experience very similar to that of a live concert…a total of 16 loudspeakers masterminded by 16 amplifier channels with an overall output of more than 1,000 watts provide a unique sound, complemented by an active subwoofer together with a 300 W Class D amplifier.”
Yes, yes, but does it actually go?

Four door/seat Porsche saloon this year

Porsche is set to launch its new Panamera in 2009. The new model will be a four-door, four-seat luxury saloon. It will be front-engined and rear wheel drive, with four-wheel drive available on top versions
The intention for the Panamera is to be a true sportscar while at the same time also being a family-car for every-day with four full seats, easy access to the rear and a luggage compartment of around 450 litres. When it hits the road this year, Porsche hopes to be able to sell 20,000 units. Prices are not yet available but this will be an interesting new addition to the luxury car leasing market.

09 Boxster to be faster and more economical

Although the freshened up Boxster, due out next year, would appear to have had only a cosmetic makeover, under the skin of the new car lies the newly developed engine which delivers more power and uses less fuel. The basic engine offers 2.9 litre and 225bhp whilst the 3.4 litre version in the S model delivers 310bhp.
The suspension has been tweaked to create a better drive and more comfort. Modification of the valve control map on the steering transmission serves to reduce steering forces, giving the Boxster a ‘more agile and spontaneous steering behaviour’.
Expect to reach 62mph in just 5.9 secs in the more powerful version.
The next generation Boxsters will be available from February 2009 with the standard model costing from £34,420 and the S version costing from £41,250. A luxury option for the car leasing market.

Second generation Boxster launched

This week Porsche is launching the second generation of its mid-engined Boxster roadster at the Los Angeles Motor Show.
Highlight of the new generation is the new flat-six ‘boxer’ engines, developed with new technical features from the ground up. They provide not only more power but also significantly greater fuel efficiency.
A new six speed manual transmission fitted as standard and the Boxster accelerates from 0-62 mph in 5.9 seconds. The Boxster S, when fitted with PDK transmission and Launch Control accelerates from 0-62mph in 5.0 seconds.
The new Boxster goes on sale in the UK from February 21st 2009 and is priced from £34,420. The Boxster S is priced from £41,250. Buyers will be able to explore the dynamic attributes of the car and develop their own skills behind the wheel courtesy of a Driving Experience Programme at the new Porsche Driving Experience Centre at Silverstone. For a longer test why not consider car leasing?
