Lotus with Electric Windows and Air Con

What’s this, a Lotus with electric windows, carpets, air conditioning and an audio system with satnav? It gets scarier. This is a Lotus with…a boot that can take a suitcase. Just the one mind you, with only enough clothes to last you the afternoon. And the handbook has its own pocket in the same boot – is this because there isn’t room inside the cockpit?
To be fair, this is still a Lotus and it is still a car for the purists when compared with what else you could buy for the £33K price tag. The power and torque outputs of 225PS at 5,700rpm and 300Nm at 4,000rpm, together with the 995kg bodyweight allows a top speed of 146mph and a 0-62mph sprint time of 5.4seconds. So you and the missus can speed home with the shopping from Tesco.
OK it’s not that practical and you’ll probably need to keep the Passat – but what a great option for car leasing for that weekend whizz through leafy lanes.

I was only saying to Nanook the other day

I was only saying to Nanook the other day, what we need is a couple of scantily clad posers to warm things up around here.
‘Nah’, he said. He always says nah; it’s how he got his name. Nobody knows about the ook bit. He always leaves a long gap after nah, for effect and emphasis. So then he had to say it again to regain our attention.
‘Nah, you don’t need them. You need one of them Lotus CIVs’.
You could have heard an anvil drop in the lounge bar of the Artic Turning Circle as, one by one, conversations stopped and heads turned in our direction.
‘What’s a CIV when it’s at home?’
‘A Lotus What?’
‘Turn the match up’
‘Shut up you berk’
Seeing he had centre ground Nanook puffed up his anoraked chest and expounded. It appears that ever since global warming was confirmed, the weather has been getting wetter, colder and windier. Stands to sense then that soon we will enter another ice age. The smart money is therefore on a CIV – A Concept Ice Vehicle.
By now all the heads had turned back, all the conversations had restarted with a vengeance and the match had been turned up so high that our little group, duty bound to stay with Nanook, had to feign strained ears to learn that Lotus plan to power the CIV by a bioethanol engine and a propeller. And, amazingly, instead of tyres (which would be of limited value in a world bound by ice) ground contact is via three runners that enable it to glide over frozen ground.
Give him his due Nanook had introduced a topic we could drink to for another hour till kicking out time. And he stood his ground as our attacks on his daft idea grew wilder and sillier. But when he told us he was getting one for the weekend from a car leasing firm we all, to a man, shouted ‘Nahhhh!!’
