Be OK with a lick of paint, mate

Which motoring programme borrows cars and wrecks them? Which team of three presenters would play motorised lawn bowls with a posse of Astras and run up $30,000 of damage?
If you immediately shouted ‘Top Gear’ you’d be right …. (endless Clarkson pause)…and wrong.
It’s the Oz version of the hit UK series that has made it into the headlines down under, with claims that their version of ‘messers’ Clarkson, May and Hammond have run up repair bills of $200.000 on cars loaned to the programme by the seething PR departments of car companies.
The Auzzie Top Gear apparently doesn’t have the budget of the original but does have the urge to punish the models on loan – without the wherewithal to make any recompense. Biggest single bill to date was $25,000 which had to be met by Lamborghini to put right their car when it was returned. Great fun eh?
Anyway, don’t they look contrite in the picky above? That’s Clarkson with a moustache in the middle and a blonde May on the left. Nothing like the originals, except… who’s that on the right? It is, isn’t it? It’s the Hamster himself surely, with a bit of hamster stubble.
News is that the programme isn’t getting strong ratings with the public – or with Auzzie car companies. Can’t think that either team of Top Gear presenters would be preferred customers when it comes to car leasing.
