It’s a Hyundai – and they’re not laughing now

When Toyota launched the Lexus LS400 to compete with the top of the line Mercedes S-class (at a much lower price) the Germans laughed out loud. Fifteen years later and they stopped laughing a long time ago. The S-class price has been slashed by nearly 25% and the Lexus is able to command near-Mercedes prices.
Enter the next giant-slayer – Hyundai’s new Genesis. Almost as big as the Lexus LS460 but priced like the compact IS350, the new Genesis isn’t drawing any laughs at all.
In a recent test against a Mercedes E555, a Lexus GS460 and a Jaguar XF the reviewers concluded that;
“as a luxury car in the grand American tradition of luxury cars – plush, quiet, relatively inexpensive cruisers with loads of space, a big V-8, and all the gadgets to impress the neighbors – the Genesis wins hands down”
The Lexus was a favourite for car leasing – will the Genesis go the same way?

    1. We didn’t get a production version of the Concept CS, but it looks like things are going to go a little less disappointingly with the recently unveiled BMW Gran Coupé. Elements from the rakish four-door are will first appear on the 6 Series coupe and convertible, and the Gran Coupé’s cues are expected to “turn up all over the BMW range in the next few years.”
