According to the Auto Express web site, BMW is planning to add a new 'city' model to it's range, which may be named after their classic 'Isetta' bubble car of the 1950s.

The 'green-friendly' car would be dwarfed by their current smallest model - the Mini!
It's not the kind of news you expect from the masters of so many beastly classics, but it shows how changing attitudes to ecological issues are even having to be catered for by global giants like BMW. Not so long ago, such was their desirability that they didn't even include things like a stereo as standard equipment - and still had no sales problems.
It'll be interesting to see how the new model fares, though - there still seems to be little demand for tiny cars in the market, probably because they're so typically ugly. So BMW will have to produce something pretty special to retain their reputation (something better looking than the one-series would be a good starting place...)
So look out, BMW leasing fans, you may soon be traveling to work in a glorified German roller-skate! On the plus side, the ability to park it under your desk could make life much easier...
