BMW plans to unveil a new electrically-powered MINI E to the world later this month. As part of its first year strategy BMW will supply 500 of the new MINI E to North American drivers on a one year lease, after which the cars go back to BMW for comparative tests.
A lithium-ion battery will power the new mini to 62mph in just 8.2 seconds and on up to 95mph where a limiter will kick in. To house the battery for this performance the MINI E initially loses its two rear seats.
BMW Group aims to begin series production in the medium term of all-electric vehicles as part of the company’s Number ONE strategy.
Electricity looks set to be the future of sustainable and environmentally acceptable motoring and will almost certainly make a big impact on the car leasing market before long
