All–electric MINI E to be unveiled this month

minie.jpg
BMW plans to unveil a new electrically-powered MINI E to the world later this month. As part of its first year strategy BMW will supply 500 of the new MINI E to North American drivers on a one year lease, after which the cars go back to BMW for comparative tests.
A lithium-ion battery will power the new mini to 62mph in just 8.2 seconds and on up to 95mph where a limiter will kick in. To house the battery for this performance the MINI E initially loses its two rear seats.
BMW Group aims to begin series production in the medium term of all-electric vehicles as part of the company’s Number ONE strategy.
Electricity looks set to be the future of sustainable and environmentally acceptable motoring and will almost certainly make a big impact on the car leasing market before long

Green please, but not if it costs

greencar.jpg
According to market researchers J.D.Power, car buyers want to go green but not if it involves paying extra. Environmentally friendly cars are favourite with most but, whilst car leasing might offer one route, only 11% are very willing to pay more for such cars. The research also revealed that buyers willing to cough up extra to go green are more likely to be highly educated women living in the western United States. Own up, who thought ‘small market then’?

Expensive cars prove to be, well, expensive

merc.jpg
Research from America’s National Automobile Dealers Association reveals (shock, horror) that driving luxury cars is an expensive habit. Quite apart from finding the shedloads of cash to buy in the first place, the rate of depreciation on cars costing over $50K is higher than any other – with up to 25% of your cash vapourising in the first three years.
Mind you, if you’re a typical buyer, you won’t keep it that long. NADA says it’s because luxury car junkies have to trade in for the next new model so regularly that values of used models drop so fast.
If your budget’s limited and you can’t face the indignity of a one year old luxury car, one way of getting the object of your desire might be to go for car leasing.

A new self-parking Audi Madam?

audiA3.jpg
It wouldn’t do to make any connection whatsoever between the fact that the Audi A3 cabriolet has been voted ‘Car of the Year’ by a women’s web site and the fact that it offers a self parking feature. But both of these facts are, well, facts.
The new Parallel Park Assist feature adds around £700 but then all you need do is cruise the streets at less than 19mph and the car will search out its own space based on its own size. You pull up, engage reverse and touch the accelerator and the car takes over, steering itself into the space in one manoeuvre. Of course you do have to apply the brake when the car buzzes you but otherwise it does it for you. Just the job for car leasing.
